As a "frequent flier" and world-traveler, I chuckled a few times while reading the 9/20 issue titled "Do as We Say, Not as We Did."

We've lost luggage, overspent on almonds, been arrested in Puerto Rico, and offended our foreign hosts - all so you don't have to. Herewith, DailyCandy's travel commandments.

Tip well. If you're American, tip even better.

Learn some local geography: Sweden and Norway are not "real close."

Buy your own water at the nearest convenience store. You're a true sucker if you pay for the bottles in the room.

Step. Away. From. The minibar. Have it locked if you cannot restrain yourself.

These are just a few of their "commandments." Cute, and practical.I can attest to the value of each!

Looking for inspiration?

I walked across the block from the hotel to have dinner at The Ritz Grill. I enjoyed a nice meal, but even better, wound up chatting with a couple of the employees there. One happened to have lived in New Zealand for 4 years, returning to Colorado Springs to continue studying conservation. (She's getting ready to go back to NZ when she's done!)

At the end of the conversation, I promised to send them some links to some of the inspiring information I've seen out there. One is the Bioneers conference that I've been to - each year in October. And, the TED Conference is one that I'd recommend everyone see at least once (by blog at least) every now and then...

Several years ago (some of you know this story, but it's that time of year again!) several of my family members started the process of surviving bouts with cancer. My step-mom, my aunt, my grandmother, and a grandpa...so far, so good!

Any time I see some "good news" show up, I want to share it with as many people as I can. So, here's a weblog that - for October - will be dedicated to the cause...
