A mention as the "best of..."

A colleague forwarded me a link to this site, where one of my  posts was included in a "best of" for 2006. I had a chance to peruse some more of this blog, and found some interesting things included there.

This "e-mail" tip alone is worth the read (if anyone out there has been "on the road" and had trouble sending e-mail...).

Thanks, Mike, for the great info, and the link to one of my blogs!

EDUCATE--not a little, but a lot. Run a school. A real honest to goodness school, online or off, by phone or by plane. If it's important enough to me, I'll attend.

A colleague of mine recently sent me a link to Seth Godin's blog, and I read the quote above.

It reminded me of the time I spent in the evenings while I was a high school teacher. I regularly stayed at school well in to the dark, looking at the next day's (and subsequent week's) lesson plans. To this day, when people ask me what I taught, I respond:

"Oh, I taught accountability, responsibility, respect, kindness, self-esteem...

...and, I was paid to teach US History and Spanish language."

Good things come in trios : "3 Dimensional Wealth"

I enjoyed a wonderful conversation with Monroe Diefendorf, Jr. recently. Later the same day as our conversation, I received a hardback copy of his book.

Signed on the inside cover:

To Jason, Here's to your 3 Dimensional Wealth
Roey

In the book, Roey uses his own - as well as client - examples to make his points. Here's one concept that I acknowledged:

(From Page 67) - My pillars are ranked in order of importance: family legacy, spiritual legacy, voluntary philanthropy, mentoring, and service to others.

But, I really want MORE!

Ok, admit it...are you really looking for "life/work balance?"

Before you read on, consider what that would even mean to you!

(From Inc.com) - Concerns about stress, productivity and the correct combination of work and personal time are issues whose importance extends well beyond the winter holidays.

Work-life balance (via The Economist)

Link: Work-life balance on Economist.com.

Consumer technologies such as IM usually make employees more productive...

I'd love to get the Fit and Effective community to weigh in here. I've "looked into" the issue of "interruptions at work," and I'm not convinced...

I've been tagged...pass it on!

Do you remember "tag?" When I grew up, it was a game we played for hours. Dodging tables, trees, and stairs around the playground (it's a wonder we didn't lose MORE teeth!), we tried to catch up with, and tag, someone else.

Well, it was only a matter of time until "tag" came to the blog world! So, here we are. Pascal (thanks!) caught up with me, even though I was "hiding" in New York, London and Dayton for the past couple of weeks!

So, read on...and tag a few others!

TypingMaster - Touch Typing Tutor with Optimal Learning

Link: TypingMaster - Touch Typing Tutor

Imagine typing as fast as you think.
Imagine writing your reports with speed and ease.
Imagine replying to emails in half the time.
The change begins here.
It's time to let your typing flow.

I've been a fan of this software for quite some time. In fact, I have had it installed on my computers since 2001! (I remember in just months of use, my typing speed increased to more than 50 words per minute, while my accuracy jumped to near 100%!)

Speaking of the New Year (With Lisa Snider - Radio Ojai)

I enjoyed another sit down chat with Lisa Snider on 12/20. Take a listen as we discuss the new year, resolutions and staying focused on what's most important.

Begin...for a chance

"First of all ... , second of all ... , and ... FINALLY! ..."

Have you ever heard people talk about what they're thinking of doing? All too often, the "best laid plans of mice and men..." somehow fall apart. Why? I speculate it's because they've acknowledge inappropriate stepping stones.

To reach a goal - in this case, to move from goal setting to goal attainment, there are steps that must be, well...stepped on. I am a believer in what I call the "Realizing pattern."

Ideas for the Whole Community: Empty your “mind-clutter”

I've been writing for Today's Parish for about a year. Next January, an article on mind-mapping and idea-generation will come out. Here's a preview:

Link: Empty your “mind-clutter”.

Outline: Create a linear hierarchy of ideas with supporting data for each point. To create an outline in MS Word, go to the Format menu, click Bullets and Numbering, and then click the Outline Numbered tab.

Mind map: Sketch a loosely connected, non-linear association of ideas linking similar concepts in an organic method. For more on mind maps, click on the example image above that Jason created.
