Each day, incorporate process and procedure development

Last week, I was on the phone with a client looking to "balance" their life and work interests. The more we discussed what was "along the way" and what was "in the way," we came up with different areas to address.

Set aside the tools and the time you can use to develop any of these:
Strategy (*see below)
Organization (*more to come...)
Brainstorming (*more to come...)
Purging (*more to come...)

Consider drawing a “time line” that starts with today and ends 365 days from now. Go ahead and write those two dates. Then, draw a line halfway through – write that date (6 months from now).

Now, to the most of your imagination, write one or two sentences that describe your ideal life 12 months from today. This is not to say you’re not living your ideal right now…it is assuming there is something ELSE you will be experiencing a year from now.

Once you have that end result, write a project or product you need to complete within 6 months to get closer to that goal.

Then, between today and the 6 month mark, again draw a line halfway through; that’s the 90 day mark.

Do it again: 45 days
Do it again: 22 days

Then, for each of those three markers, identify one sub-project that will get you closer to that original – 6-month – mark. Continue to develop and refine your strategy, and you’ll experience more of what you want.
