It's not just about "getting there"
I was on the phone with a new client recently, we were working out the details surrounding a presentation I’m doing on “focus management and personal performance.” Although we’d had a few good discussions by phone, we hadn’t had a chance to meet face to face (we tried twice while I was on trips to New York City…just didn’t work out).
Toward the end of the conversation, I said: I’m looking forward to being there, working for your group.
Later, when I hung up the phone, I thought about that statement and realized just how “loaded” it is.
“I’ll be there.”
Have you ever said this to anyone? Have you ever made a promise to “show up?” Well, what does it mean, really, to say “I’ll be there”?
I trust that the body is more than a host for the mind. It’s more than mere transportation, a way to get our brains from one place to the next. When I say “I’ll be there,” I’m not just saying my body is planning to show up; I’m committing myself to that person or group; offering them all the time, energy and focus it could take to mange what we’re doing.
