How "CAN" you be more creative?

Vonoech Ok, now wait a minute...if you found yourself reading the title of this post [How "CAN" you be more creative?], and thought anything like the following, you are ALREADY creative!

"Yeah, how CAN I be more creative?"
"Oh, I can't do that, I'm not really a creative person."
"Wow, how did Jason know exactly what I was thinking about today?"
"He has no idea who I am, I am ALREADY as creative as I want to/need to be."

Yes, I did say if you were thinking anything LIKE any of the above, you are already an incredibly creative person. Let me explain...

It takes a lot to "get a new idea." But, what is a new idea...really?

Isn't it just an opportunity to put what we were thinking about on hold, to pick up a new thought, and run with that until we're ready to go back to the original thought?

Do you have any idea what stress that causes to the internal/mental systems? I do...'cause that's what I study! Whether is purely mental (like sitting at desk all day long), purely physical (like racing a 1/2 Ironman Triathlon) or a combination of the two (being interviewed for an article WHILE racing in a 10K running race!), when we take one thought and replace it with another, we're being creative!

So, go back and read those "sample" quotes again. Have you ever had a thought different than what you were thinking before that thought? (Yes, that's a trick question...)

Well, take note the next time you have to "thought-switch" or "task-switch." Most likely, you're going to have to "be creative."

If you're STILL looking for more ideas on how to jump start your creativity, check out this link to one of my favorite books of ALL time, A Whack On The Side of the Head...

Here's a short video I put together...check it out! (click on the sideways arrow...)

In fact, I just pulled the extra copy I had in my bookcase to put it in an envelope and send to a client...it's THAT good!
