Visiting Austin, TX...any advice?
Well, I thought I'd call on this community (there are quite a few people reading this blog daily...thank you! Please spread the word...) and ask:
Any ideas of things to do/places to go/people to meet in Austin, Texas? I'm here from Wednesday through Sunday night...
(It's our "family reunion" time...38 of us meeting at Barton Creek!)
Thanks in advance!

yes Bryan, the Oasis is still here. They had a fire back in 2005, but rebuilt and the legend continues.
"The lightning struck in one of the lower decks near our longhorn bar area. And we think it smoldered, and it traveled to a little auxiliary kitchen down there and ignited a propane stove," Theriot said. "That created a big flash and that threw fire everywhere throughout the decks and that's why it spread so fast."
It completely changed the legendary view from the grounds of The Oasis.

Scanning the list, I haven't seen the obligatory trip to the Oasis restaurant to see the sun set over lake Travis. Austin dwellers, It's been a few years since I lived in Austin...is the Oasis still there?

I recommend the Bob Bullock Museum State History Museum downtown and a walk around Town Lake.

Thank you guys, this is great. I also received a few e-mails...so it looks like the weekend is filling up with opportunities!
One of my colleagues from Washington DC called a buddy who lives here in Austin, who called me to tell me there's a triathlon here this weekend! What a cool (little) world we live in where these kinds of connections are made...

LOTS of places to eat:
Mexican food: Guero's Taco Bar on S. Congress
Steaks: Fleming's on East 2nd
LBJ Library
Univ. of Texas campus -- Hook'em horns
Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Ctr just SW of Austin
This could be a very LONG LIST --- don't forget about 6th St at night -- great live music and food.
Cheers from Texas

If you like theater check out "Love Sonota" at the recently opened Long Center. The only one I can vouch for is "Stroke". Robert Matney is a great director (and he works for my company ;-).

Love Sonatas
The Love Sonatas is a series of five, full length plays: FourSquare, Sonata Escondida, Shards, Stroke, and Kuka.
Composed of snapshots of twenty people’s lives, these plays share characters, but more importantly, they share the common struggle of connecting and answering the question, “What is love?”
