What's the point?
When you think about ALL the "things" you're getting done - emails you write and reply to, the meetings you attend, the documents you read and write, all the things that you do at home, for your community, for your family - do you ever pause long enough to ask: "Why?"
Do you ever wonder if it's all really worth it? If all the hard work, late nights, stressful conversations will even make a difference? Are you wondering what you need to START, what you need to Get Momentum on next?
Jodi and I are designing the curriculum and coaching activities for the September Course Work at www.GetMomentum.com for our members worldwide. We'll be looking at two very important words in the world of "Productivity."
When was the last time you asked yourself what those mean to you? From the outside, it's easy to see that a lot of people leave "Strategic Thinking" for other people to do. (Too often, too many of the people we work around and/or live with avoid doing their own long and mid-term thinking; and then, when someone ELSE does do that thinking, they complain/judge/resist.)
Do you want to start being a "strategic" thinker?
I'll give you a few of the questions I know you need to ask. If you consider yourself a Strategic Thinker, these questions will remind you of the work you've done, of the queries you KNOW you need to pull. And, if you have't (yet) given yourself the title you so deserve, I challenge you to write these 4 questions in your notebook, and spend 5-10 minutes on each.
But, be careful: Once you start thinking this way, people may start thinking you have a plan...that you care....that you're willing to do the work it's gonna take to make things better out there!
Oh, and one more thing: Spend time with people who think this way. Raise the flag, send an invite, tell people you're going to be at a coffee shop or lunch place and invite them to come on by. When they do, ask them about all this "Strategic Thinking" stuff. Ask them how they do it, share some of your wins, and look for some learnings.
Now, for some of those questions...
Do people know of us?
Do they know us?
Do they know what we do?
Do they know why we do it?
Those are just 4 of the 13 questions we teach people to ask during the month we study Strategic Thinking.
Oh, and think about this for a moment, these questions are JUST as applicable to that next project you've taken on at work, as they are to the next family vacation you're planning!
