Andi Alstot

I am compelled to share a book that has changed the way I write, and approach my world. I too must think in terms of "one foot in front of the other" both figuratively and literally - as a writer, mother and athlete, I am continually reminded of the challenges one personally faces when passions compete. And we face our fears. Annie Lamott's book, Bird by Bird captures the essence of seeing that which is in front of us, and capturing it's honesty. As cyclist and runner, I am forced to look at the asphalt or trail ahead of me(lest I invite injury!) and as a mother, I must recognize that each moment, comprising each day, is an opportunity for long-term investment in raising strong, healthy and interesting adults. All varying themes on putting one foot in front of the other.
A week from Wednesday, I leave for a very intense women's cycling camp, not coincidentally covering the experience for a magazine I write for. And the hardest part, I leave my two sons for five days. A challenge to see, experience and embrace clearly - with one foot in front of the other.
Thanks, Jason.
