But you obviously need to have the self-confidence, or conviction, that you can do it. I think that's a belief more than anything else. A belief in yourself that you can do it. I believe that's a learned trait. And that's what I think the symbolism of ultra endurance running is, that you prove to yourself you can do things you never thought you could. If someone had said to me, before I started doing this, you're going to go out and run 100 miles through the mountains, I would have said,
"No, a human being can't do that, let alone me." And then when you actually achieve that, it teaches you that you're better than you think you are and you can go further than you think you can.
Who believes in you? I mean, really, who's got your back? Is there a team mate, a friend, a relative? A neighbor a co-worker, a boss?
How about you? Do you believe in you?
I had dinner with some friends last week, and our friend gave as "the grand tour." With 3 kids, a husband and a business, her house showed the effects of someone "who loves her kids very much, and who is very, very busy."
I got to see the younger daughter's room, and while she played a video game, IMed with some friends and listened to a CD, I looked around. There, on the ceiling above her bed was a sign that said something like, "I like me."
"WOW," I thought. Imagine THAT being the thought that I ended the day AND started the day with. More than an affirmation, more than a thought, with enough practice ANYthing can become reality!
I challenge anyone reading this with the following:
Pick something you want, that's just outside of your "think I can get it" zone. For the next 30 days, imagine it's yours. Imagine you already have it. Imagine you are using it (whether it is something physical or something mental or emotional). For the next month, every day and every night, just "pre-tend" it's yours.
... let me know how it goes!
