Fun article in today's Wall Street Journal (Wed, Jul 30, 2008) by Lee Gomes.
I enjoyed the thinking that ensued as I started to consider the "distractfulness" (my word, not Lee's) of the Computer-Literate. I fall victim quite often...you know, when you hear someone say, "Oh, let me go look that up on the Internet really fast..." and then, you don't see them for another 45 minutes. Ever happen to you?
So, I'm thinkin' about this query from Mr. Gomes...what IF I only had 20 minutes on a computer a day?
Of course, those of you who know me, you know I'll experiment over the next few weeks...
20 minutes a day 2 hours a day Connected all day ...2 days AWAY from a computer completely (yes, including this BlackBerry)
The Wall Street Journal question of the day (www.wsj.com/Question) is:
Is it important for the president of the U.S. To use the Internet regularly?
20 minutes should be sufficient for most people (except for bloggers, who need to be online 24h). If you only have twenty minutes you will have to plan in advance what you're actually want to do. Batching up internet use will also take away the urgency of some browsing.
Interesting experiment...
