"Stressed out, I've got a lot to do."
"It's the beginning of the month, have you considered setting some goals?"
"I'm so busy, I don't even have time to think...let alone set some goals. I'm overwhelmed as it is, carrying all of this stuff around."
And, so goes another conversation in the hallway with a coworker...If you are so busy that you don't even have time to think, that just may be the instigation you need.
More and more, time management is not about scheduling fewer meetings, coming in to the office earlier, or trying to "get one more thing done on the train ride home..."
It's about managing short bursts of intense focus, in small windows of time. Look around, what can you leave behind (thought, project, plan) for 20-30 minutes? Then, with that short window of time, as few distractions as possible, and a pen and paper nearby, what can you think about that's new and exciting.
You've got a lot to do, that's true. And, in a year...there will be some more!
