...doesn't mean the result is guaranteed...
Have you ever cooked or baked something "by recipe?" Growing up in a restaurant (thanks to my mom and step-dad, I know how to cook AND clean, plan AND perform!) I can remember practicing cooking in many different ways.
- Sometimes, I would pull a recipe card and see how close I could come - matching effort to ingredients to outcome.
- Other times, I would walk in to the fridge and give myself no more than 5 minutes to look, review and choose: What ingredients?...What outcome?
Now-a-days, I like to use a similar methodology for work AND play days. Some days, I wake up and review the ingredients I know would go into a great day. Other times, I leave any and all planning behind to simply see what shows up.
Now, just like when I'm cooking (or baking), the days that have all the ingredients don't necessarily mandate the outcome. Sometimes, you put it all together, leave the thing in the oven, and what you get an hour later does NOT look like the picture! Other times, something that NEVER made a list, wasn't part of the plan, is the thing that I spend the most time, energy and focus on through the day!
Oh and for the record, the days that I do NO planning to just "see what shows up," aren't always freed up of stress. I'm just sayin'...
For the next 5 days, identify just 4-6 ways to “start” each day so that you can be at your best. Eat breakfast, meditate, say thank you with a card or a call, identify a critical success factor for the day…whatever, just make sure you do it each day.
