With an abundance of opportunity heading our way (and, probably even more to do next week!) it's not always possible to stay ahead of things. However, it is very important - from time to time - to get started, demonstrate our engagement quotient, and prove that we are leaders.
How can you get ahead, starting today?
1. Don't Wait
2. Seek Assistance
3: Course Correct
Now, each one of these deserves just a little bit of attention and explanation. I know that with just a little it of focus, we can engage and make it possible to get more done, in less time, with the tools and resources we have.
1. Don't Wait. Pull out a piece of paper, and write down your goals. Use the knowledge gained through the years by marketing departments to increase the likelihood that you'll see information you can use to your advantage!
2. Seek Assistance. (I almost wrote: See Assistant!) You don't have to do it all yourself. I "outsource" a lot of the transaction/task stuff, not nearly to the degree that some people I've heard of, but for little things like: http://www.womackcompany.com/reqall - using that service, I have cut down on the time I spend typing emails and getting reminders into my system.
3. Course Correct. From time to time, I'll wish I did things differently. In those moments, I actually stop, pull out a piece of paper or my Moleskine journal, and write for a few minutes. I use http://www.womackcompany.com/projectdebrief a lot, as it helps me look for what I can enhance "the next time."
