Change is the hardest thing for us to accept. We want what we want, but we want to get it by continuing to do what HASN'T gotten us the results we've hoped for.
"Things aren't bad enough yet."
On Monday, a leader confided in me that "These are all good ideas, but..."
Now, I won't tell you what else she said. I'll mention that this comment came at minute 172 of a 3-hour course. I'll also say she arrived about an hour late. I'll ALSO say that O had given 4 solid ideas on how to:
Plan for more productive days;
Use technology to save 15-30 minutes daily;
Communicate more effectively with colleagues;
End days by acknowledging progress on measurable goals.
I let her share her concerns - nothing I hadn't heard in more than 1,800 workshops on executive presence and management skills - and then I replied.
"Things aren't bad enough yet."
When you're tired and sick of being sick and tired, THAT is when you'll actually do things differently. Until then, well...you'll just work on getting to the end of the day, hoping you don't fall down from exhaustion or doing anything that seriously compromises your relationships with loved ones.
Now, the good ones. The women and men willing to look in the MIRROR twice before looking out the window once...you are my people.
I'm ready when you are. Let's talk...
