Where are you along the way in getting to where you need to be next?
There are so many conditions in that question...at least 6 that I can count over coffee this morning.
Where: Look in the mirror, twice. Study that man in the mirror (as Michael Jackson sang...) and choose the ONE thing to change.
You: Who makes up "you"? Your team, your community, your background. Get a "makeover" any way you can. It's the only way you'll change...really.
Getting: The biggest problem I see is that people I coach don't have a way to quantify/qualify how far they've come. They underestimate how much they'll change this decade, and overestimate how much they can Change this month.
Need: Stop it. Just stop. Your needs are not your wants. Get out of your own way, and separate this list. Your needs, those must be handled first. THEN, then you can go for your wants.
Be: Do, Be, Have... play around with the order of those words.
Next: Its always about the next. The after. The "now what?" of the process. Obsess over next, and every conversation will be different.
Have you had a chance to see the commencement speech that Steve Jobs gave at Stanford a while back? If not, go to www.TED.com now and watch it. If it has been more than a year, go...watch it!
